How We're Like a Chihuahua in a Sewer

YouTube - Eldad Hagar, Hope For Paws

If you haven't, I encourage you to watch the amazing story above. What a moving and beautiful picture of the gospel - the good news that Jesus saves us, heals, and forgives us.

  • We're not meant to live in the sewer.
  • We're lost.
  • We're filthy.
  • We're filled with fear.
  • We're wounded, deprived of truth and love.
  • We're angry and self-protective.
  • We don't understand our own predicament.
  • We even attack the one who has come to rescue us.
But with compassion and love, Jesus comes after us...
  • While we were still all of that and worse, Jesus sacrificed his comfort and position to rescue us from certain death.
  • He thinks we're valuable.
  • He meets us where we're at, no matter how messy; He experienced the sewer with us so he could save us from it.
  • He's not put off by our stench or aggression.
  • He calls us to turn around and surrender rather than run away.
  • He pursues us with love even when we fight him and prefer our filth.
  • He rescues us and holds us close.
  • He comforts us.
  • He washes and heals us.
  • He forgives our offenses.
  • He inspires our trust, our faith.
  • His love transforms us.
  • He puts us in a community with others he's rescued.
He calls every one of us.
